DURHAM, N.C. – Davidson College won five of six singles matches to rally past host North Carolina Central University and pick up a 5-2 non-conference men’s tennis victory at the NCCU Tennis Courts Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles won the top two doubles matches and then got a singles win from senior Daniil Gerasimov before falling to 6-8 overall.
The Wildcats erased the deficit and secured the team triumph with straight set wins at No. 1, 3, 4 and 5.
Davidson improved to 12-6 overall.
Gerasimov first paired with senior Fabrice George for a quick 8-1 win. The duo boasts a 6-2 mark together.
Senior Tamina Kienka and sophomore William East followed with an 8-4 win. Kienka and East trailed 3-4 in the top doubles match before breaking back and flying ahead to seize the team point in favor of the Eagles.
Gerasimov kept the Maroon and Gray in contention with his 6-2, 6-1 singles win. The Belgorod, Russia, resident increased his win streak to a dozen straight. Gerasimov is 12-1 in his senior campaign.
Davidson picked up its fifth point in the final singles match after the team decision was already locked as Alex Howard rallied to defeat junior Thomas Persico in a super-set tiebreaker by a margin of 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8).
