B-CU Golf Men Conclude Play at FAU Slomin Championship

LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman junior men’s golfer Leon Fricker finished tied for 10th on Sunday in the final round of the Seventh Annual FAU Slomin Autism Championship at the Fountains Country Club. The three-day, 54-hole event was hosted by FAU on the North Course.

Fricker, a native of Ivybridge, England, entered Championship Sunday in fifth place at 1-under-par through the first 36 holes. Sunday, he fired a 4-over-par 75, allowing him to finish tied for 10th overall in the field of 115 golfers, capturing his fourth top-10 finish of the 2014-15 campaign. He turned in rounds of 69, 72 and 75, finishing at 216 (+3).

As a team, Bethune-Cookman (303-296-308=907) finished 18th.

Bethune-Cookman gets back to the course for its next event April 13-14, as the Wildcats take part in the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Wintry Conditions Trouble Hawks at Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational

GRASONVILLE, Md. – For two days, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Men’s Golf Team battled the wintery conditions at the Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational, hosted by the Towson Tigers. The squad could not overcome the undesirable circumstances as they finished 23rd overall in the event. Despite the outcome, the Hawks had their moments.

Overall, UMES shot a 709 (+141) in a two-day span. In the first round, the club posted a 358 (+74). Sophomore Norman Blanco recorded an 82 (+11) for the Hawks, five strokes better than teammate Bryce Young.

On April 4-5, the Hawks travel down south to Tallahassee, Fla. to compete in the Florida A&M (FAMU) Rattler Invitational.

Jags Ninth To Open Hootie At Bulls Bay

ATLANTA, Ga.  – The GRU Augusta men’s golf team teed off at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate, at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C., and shot an even-par 288 to sit in ninth place after the first 18 holes on Sunday afternoon.

The 15-team field teed off on the par-72, 7363-yard course and the Jags began their opening round starting at 10:00 a.m. off hole number 10. GRU sits ninth overall, led by Cody Shafer’s two-under 70 with five birdies (three in a row on 16-18).  

The event continues tomorrow, March 30 for another round of 18 at the Hootie.
