Short, Gaston Named to NABC All-District Team

NORFOLK, Va. – Juniors Jeff Short and RaShid Gaston of the Norfolk State men’s basketball team were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 15 Team on Friday morning by the organization.
 
Short earned a spot on the first-team, while Gaston was voted to the second team.
 
A native of the Bronx, N.Y., Short was a first-team All-MEAC honoree this year at guard. He led the Spartans and ranked second in the MEAC and in the top 30 in the nation in scoring at 19.1 points per game. He also averaged 4.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 0.9 steals per game.
 
He also ranked in the top eight in the league in field goal percentage (49.8), 3-point field goal percentage (39.4) and free throw percentage (82.0). Short was named to the Lou Henson Award mid-season watch list by CollegeInsider.com earlier this year.
 
Gaston posted 18 double-doubles this season on the way to averaging 15.5 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.2 blocks per game. He ranked eighth in the MEAC in scoring and second in rebounding. The native of Warren, Ohio also ended the season second in the league in field goal percentage at 62.6. He also stood fourth in the nation in shooting percentage and eighth in double-doubles.
 
Short was joined on the first team by Jordan Parks of North Carolina Central, James Carlton of Howard, UMES’ Mike Myers and Delaware State’s Amere May. Nimrod Hilliard (NCCU), Kendall Gray (DSU), James Daniel (Howard) and Dwight Meikle (Hampton) were voted to the second team along with Gaston.
 
Voting was done by member coaches of the NABC. District 15 consists of all schools in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

NSU finished 20-14 overall and 12-4 in the MEAC this season. The Spartans finished as the runner-up in the conference regular season standings and advanced to postseason play for the fourth straight year, including the second straight in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.
