DANBURY, Conn.— For an unprecedented sixth time this season, University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) junior newcomer Thashaina Seraus (Oranjestad, Aruba) was named the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Rookie of the Week for bowling, the league announced Wednesday.
Seraus is coming of an award winning weekend, being named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Most Outstanding Performer, and to its All-Tournament Team for her showing in last weekend’s MEAC Championship. She led the Hawks to their third straight and eighth overall title in come from behind fashion to beat Norfolk State 4-3 in the championship match.
Seraus was fourth overall in the field Friday in the team game format, knocking down 1,000 pins over five games to average an even 200 on the day. She posted three games of 200 or better with a high game of a 223 in the win over Howard.
On Saturday she bowled anchor in all five matches and had 27 marks in 32 frames. She was also in the anchor spot for all seven games of the championship match Sunday. She was second on the team in total Baker pinfall for the weekend, knocking down 866 pins.
Before the start of the MEAC Championship Seraus was named the MEAC Rookie of the Year and earned an All-First Team selection from the league.
No other ECAC student-athlete has won this award in one season as many times as Seraus has, an astounding six times. She is currently ranked in the top four in the nation for all NCAA bowlers and collegebowling,com has her ranked first in the nation among all first-year collegiate bowlers.
