Savannah State Men?s Golf Compete In Wallace Jones Invite

DELHI, La.  – The Savannah State men’s golf team continued the spring march with a trip to Louisiana and the Wallace Jones Invitational, hosted by the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

After a two-day, three-round and very wet tournament, the Tigers finished 14th overall with a team score of 914. They opened with a first round team score of 302. SSU improved on that in the second round with a 298, and finished on Monday with a 314.

SSU senior Travis Roe led the Tigers, finishing 10th overall in the individual battle with a three-round score of 215. Roe opened with a 73. He gradually improved over the next two rounds, shooting a 72 in the second round and a 70 in the third round.

Roe led the entire field in par 5 scoring. He shot 9-under par on the courses longest holes. He recorded one eagle and 36 pars during the tournament.

Brandon Neals followed Roe with a 231. He opened with back-to-back 75’s, and closed with an 81. Joseph Barrows improved on his first round 75 with a second round 72. He closed with an 81 for a 231 overall.

Newcomer’s Devon Jakes and Riley Keagle rounded out the Tigers’ scoring, each shooting a 243. Jakes shot a 79 to open and finished with an 82 in each of the final two rounds. Keagle shot an 83 and improved to 79 on day two. He finished with an 81.

Host ULM won the men’s division, leading the 15-team field with a team score of 861 (294, 280, and 287).  ULM’s Calum Hill won individual medalist honors with a 205 (69, 70 and 66).

Savannah State continues the 2015 season with the Florida A&M Invitational, April 3-5 in Tallahassee, Florida. SSU will host the 2015 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Golf Championship, April 23-26, at Crosswinds Golf Club in Savannah.
