NORFOLK, Va. – Bethune-Cookman’s Walid Gtari and Maria Sablina were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s and Women’s Tennis Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday. Norfolk State’s Fatehdeep Singh was selected as the Men’s Tennis Rookie of the Week.
Gtari (Jr., Arianna, Tunisia) finished a perfect week with a 3-0 record, including 2-0 at the No. 1 position in singles, against Connecticut and Oral Roberts.
Sablina (Sr., Moscow, Russia) registered a 2-0 record in singles action, along with a doubles victory over Fairleigh Dickinson, to complete an undefeated week.
Singh (Fr., Punjab, India) tallied a three-set victory, in singles action, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-1, over North Carolina Central’s Thomas Persico.
Other Top Performers:
Daniil Gerasimov (NCCU) posted a 3-0 singles record, with victories over Coppin State, Howard, and Norfolk State, to extend his winning streak to 10 matches.
Daniel Grauel (NSU) earned victories at the No. 1 doubles position over Richmond and North Carolina Central.
Yvonne Kamegne (NSU) secured singles victories in straight sets over Cheryl Kukkonen of Albany and Maria Coronel of Longwood.
Ekaterina Nekrasova (NCCU) went 2-0 in singles play, with victories over UNC-Wilmington and Norfolk State.
Maame Osei (HOW) went 4-0 in singles and doubles matches against Maryland Eastern Shore and Coppin State.
