Morgan State hangs on to topple Hampton, 4-3

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Morgan State men’s tennis team opened up Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play by capturing its first win of the season by defeating the Hampton Pirates by a score of 4-3 on Saturday afternoon.

Evan Ward and Duk Young-Park beat Hampton’s Miguel Suarez and Luke Thompson, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles. Lucas Krusinski and Treajh Ferguson prevailed against Joshua McQueen and Lakshmana Satchithananthan at the No. 3 spot, 8-6.

In the singles matchups, Evan Ward posted a hard fought victory against Luke Thompson, posting a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the No. 1 spot. Duk Young-Park won at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-1 over Peter Odegbami. Lucas Krusinski posted a win at the No. 3 spot by defeating Lakshmana Satchithananthan 6-1,6-4.

Morgan State (1-7, 1-0 MEAC) will compete in non-conference action at the 4-1 Tournament on Friday, March 27 in Richmond, Va. The Bears will face Longwood at 2:30 p.m., followed by a matchup with VCU set to start at 4 p.m.
