MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY SOFTBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central’s Emerie Germ earned the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday. Kenya Pereira of Florida A&M was selected Pitcher of the Week, while teammate Veronica Burse earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Germ (C, 5-9, Sr., Canton, Ga.) registered a .562 batting average (18-for-32), including four doubles and two home runs, while scoring 11 runs and driving in seven, in 10 games. Defensively, she recorded 42 putouts and five assists.

Pereira (P, 5-3, So., Kissimmee, Fla.) notched seven strikeouts in a complete-game 6-5 victory over Colgate.

Burse (P, 5-5, Fr., Atlanta, Ga.) tossed a complete-game win against Colgate, with eight strikeouts and two runs allowed.

Amber Fullwood (FAMU) recorded three hits, including one home run, in a 6-5 win over Colgate.

Vanessa Gomez (UMES) tallied five RBIs and three runs scored, with one home run, in a 12-9 win against Savannah State.

Samantha Casarez (UMES) went 2-for-4, with one run scored, in a 12-9 victory over Savannah State.

Sandy Hawthorne (DSU) registered three RBIs and three runs scored, with one home run and one triple, in two victories over Marist.

Jessica Shalongo (DSU) pitched 6.0 innings and scattered five hits a 6-3 win against Marist

Megan Przeslawski (NSU) belted one home run in a 7-4 loss to Siena.
