MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY WOMEN?S BASKETBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Malia Tate-DeFreitas of Hampton was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Kaylah Lupoe of Hampton earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Bethune-Cookman’s Kailyn Williams was selected the Defensive Player of the Week.  

Tate-DeFreitas (G, 5-8, So., Harrisburg, Pa.) totaled 62 points, nine rebounds, six steals, four assists and one block in conference victories over Coppin State and Howard. She registered a career-high 39 points, with five rebounds, three steals and one assist in a 106-57 win against Howard.

Lupoe (F, 6-1, Fr., Phoenix, Ariz.) averaged 18.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks in conference wins over Coppin State and Howard. She recorded a career-high 20 points and 13 rebounds, with four steals and one block, in a 106-57 victory over Howard.

Williams (F, 6-5, So., New Orleans, La.) grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked six shots in a 50-33 victory over North Carolina Central. Offensively, she notched eight points and recorded one assist against North Carolina Central.

 

Other Top Performances

Olivia Antilla (FAMU) totaled 32 points, 11 rebounds, six steals and two assists in conference games against North Carolina A&T State and Savannah State.

Tracey Carrington (MSU) recorded 19 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 73-55 victory over Coppin State.

Rae Corbo (NSU) registered 28 points, including four 3-pointers, five steals, four rebounds and four assists in a 95-55 win over Delaware State.

Braennan Farrar (MSU) finished with a career-high 25 points, five rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block in a 73-56 victory over Coppin State.

Michelle Fitzgerald (NCAT) tallied 13 points, five rebounds and one assist in a 67-59 victory over Morgan State.

Victoria Gonzales (HOW) registered a career-high 25 points and 15 rebounds in a loss to Hampton.

Jessica Long (UMES) recorded 18 points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal in a 68-61 victory over Delaware State.

Kayla Roberts (NSU) tallied 20 points, seven rebounds and two steals in a 95-55 victory over Delaware State.

Simone Sampson (MSU) grabbed 10 rebounds, along with nine points, two blocks, one assist and one steal, in a 73-55 victory over Coppin State.

Debbie Smith (NCAT) totaled 36 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, two steals and one block in conference victories over Morgan State and Florida A&M.
