UMES' Jones and Seraus earn ECAC weekly honors

DANBURY, Conn. — University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) junior newcomer Thashaina Seraus was named the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Rookie of the Week for bowling for the fifth time this season while teammate Victoria Jones was named the ECAC Bowler of the Week for the first time this season, the league announced on March 11, 2015.

Jones took All-Tournament Team honors last weekend at the Music City Classic, finishing third overall in the field of more than 150 women bowlers. Seraus was 13th overall.

Jones finished Saturday with a 227.6 average, tallying 1,138 pins with a high-game of a 245 in the win over Prairie View A&M.  It was her second straight year earning All-Tournament Team honors at this event.  She threw 100 frames over two days, posting 60 strikes and 30 spares to finish the weekend with a 90-percent fill-rate.  She knocked down 26 of 29 single-pin spares along the way.

"Vikki really lines up well at that center," said head coach Kayla Bandy. "She is on fire right now, she kept getting hotter and hotter throughout the day last Saturday and had an incredible Sunday in Baker matches too. She deserved this honor along with her All-Tournament selection."

Seraus registered 56 strikes and 33 spares to rack up a 91% percent fill rate over 98 frames. She also made 18-of-19 single-pin spares and put together a 213.4 average pin fall.  She had a high-game of a 236 in the win over Jackson State.

The pair of Jones and Seraus combined to lead UMES to a third-place finish on the team game single-day event, which included a win over No. 1 Nebraska.  They then guided the team to a perfect 5-0 day on Sunday in five, five-game Baker matches.  On the shortened weekend, the Hawks went an impressive 9-1 in a very competitive filed, including five wins against top 20 teams.

Fresh off their ECAC honors, UMES will travel to the ECAC Championships this weekend in Elmwood Park, N.J.
