NCCU Gains MEAC Regular-Season Title Once Again After Defeat to Bethune-Cookman

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University can finally taste the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular-season title for the second year in a row after beating Bethune-Cookman University 72-49 on Saturday, Feb. 28 in McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium, where the Eagles have enjoyed 34 consecutive victories.

NCCU (22-6, 14-0 MEAC) senior forward Jordan Parks amassed game-highs of 20 points and nine rebounds to top four Eagles scoring in double-figures. Senior point guard Nimrod Hilliard netted 18 points and distributed seven assists for the Eagles, while senior forward Karamo Jawara added 14 points and junior guard Dante Holmes had 12 points.

Hornets Again Plagued By Second Half Woes in Loss to Hawks

Dover, Del. --- Delaware State hit just eight-of-30 second half shots (26.7%) in a 69-65 men's basketball loss to Maryland-Eastern Shore in Memorial Hall today. The Hornets have lost two straight and three of their last four games to fall to 13-16 overall and 7-7 in the MEAC.


Amere May was the leading scorer for the Hornets with a game-high 26 points. May, the MEAC's leading scorer this season, has surpassed the 20-point mark in each of the last six games, tallying 165 points in those contests (27.5 ppg). He was five-for-eight on three-point shots, extending his streak to 22 straight games with a least one three-pointer. May also has reached double-figures in scoring in each of the last 19 games.

Delaware State will play its final home game of the season on Monday against Hampton. The Senior Day contest is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.

Pirates Steal Comeback Win At Howard

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Quinton Chevous’ driving layup with seven seconds left gave the Hampton University men’s basketball team a 68-67 comeback win over rival Howard Saturday evening at the Burr Gymnasium.

The Pirates improved to 12-15 overall and 8-6 in MEAC play.

Junior guard Deron Powers led the Pirates with 23 points on 8-for-13 shooting, hitting four 3-pointers, while Chievous had 11 points and tied for the team high with 10 rebounds.

The Pirates will be in Dover, Del. on Monday to take on Delaware State at 7:30 p.m.
