B-CU Golf Finishes Third at Gary Freeman Invite

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Bethune-Cookman men’s golf team shot a final round 305 Saturday, allowing the Wildcats to finish in third place at the 2015 B-CU Gary Freeman Spring Invitational held at LPGA International. For the fourth consecutive year, B-CU served as host of the annual event named in honor of former longtime head golf coach Dr. Gary Freeman.

Leon Fricker (77-74-73=224, +8) lowered his score each round during the two-day, 36-hole event. The native of Ivybridge, England placed himself tied for fourth in the tournament field on the strength of a final round 1-over 73. With the 73, Fricker served as the lowest round performer of the tournament for B-CU, collecting his second top-five finish of the 2014-15 campaign in the process.

The final B-CU golfer counting in the team scoring was freshman Alvaro Ramirez (84-90-77), firing a season-low 5-over 77 to cut 13 strokes from his second round scorecard. He finished just his second collegiate event tied for 48th.

Bethune-Cookman returns to the links March 9-10, traveling to compete in the Bash at the Beach hosted by Appalachian State in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Rattler Golfers Finish 8th At Freeman Invite

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. The Florida A&M Men’s Golf team placed eighth in the Gary Freeman Spring Invitational following Saturday third and final round at the LPGA International Course.

FAMU finished with a three-day total of 971, carding a 318 in Saturday’s final round, paced by the duo of Lyron Henderson and Anthony Phipps, who finished tied for 15th at 237.

Other Rattler golfers in contention during the event included Omari Whitmore (247), Kevin Parker (258) and Dennis Minefee (268).

WHAT’S NEXT: FAMU will compete in the North-South Invitational in Jacksonville, Florida, March 10-12 and the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular in Orlando, March 13-15, during Spring Break.

UMES Golf Takes Eleventh at Gary Freeman Spring Invitational

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – In their second spring event, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Men’s Golf Team took 11th overall at the Gary Freeman Invitational, host by Bethune-Cookman (BCU). The 54-hole event was held at the LPGA International Golf Course.

The squad had 1,016 strokes (+152), led by newcomer Bryce Young. Young finished tied for 25th overall. Young shot an 83 in the first round and followed up with a 78 in the second. The Maryland-native ended the tournament posting a 79 on the final day.

On March 16, the Hawks travels to Athens, Ga. to compete in the Southern Intercollegiate, hosted by the Georgia Bulldogs.
