NORFOLK, Va. – Bethune-Cookman junior Sophia Ortega earned the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday. Bethune-Cookman teammates Sabrina Anguiano and Nereyda Gutierrez were selected as Pitcher of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
Ortega (SS, 5-4, Jr., Highland, Calif.) went 9-for-18, with four doubles, four runs scored and three RBIs at the College of Charleston Challenge. She registered three hits, including one double, and scored twice in a 6-2 loss to UMass-Lowell.
Anguiano (P, 5-7, So., Hacienda Heights, Calif.) pitched in all five games at the College of Charleston Challenge. She worked 8.0 innings and fanned five in an 11-9 loss to Army.
Gutierrez (1B, 5-9, Fr., Downey, Calif.) totaled seven hits, six runs batted in, two doubles, one run scored and one walk at the College of Charleston Challenge. She recorded three runs and drove in three in a 14-11 loss to UNC-Greensboro.

Vanessa Gomez (UMES) batted .625 with five hits, including one double, at the Campbell Hampton Inn Invitational.
Vanessa Washington (DSU) went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs batted in and a run scored in a 5-4 loss to Oakland at the Pirate Classic.
