DeLAND, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman Bowling picked up two wins on Saturday, advancing forward to second place after the second day of the 2015 Wildcat Invitational, housed at Sunshine Lanes in DeLand, Florida.
Bethune-Cookman opened the day with a 991-864 setback at the hands of Tulane, followed by a 915-863 defeat to UAB. All games played on Saturday were bowled in Traditional format.
However, the best-of-seven format on Sunday is not seeded according to wins and losses, but rather total pin count. Bethune-Cookman recorded two 900-or better games, allowing the Wildcats to hang around the second and third seed position all afternoon.
B-CU picked up its first win of the afternoon when the Wildcats took down Southern, 961-796. In the contest, it was Krysta Coleman supplying a game-high 257 performance, while teammates Felicia Baker and Ivory Miles chipped in with a pair of 192 games.
Against Alabama State, B-CU was unable to maintain momentum gained just moments prior, falling to the Hornets on a count of 864-862. Alabama State used two big strikes in the final frame to come away with the come-from-behind victory. The Cats were led by the 215-game of sophomore Miles.
The final match of the day was just as exciting, as Bethune-Cookman squared off against MEAC Southern Division foe Florida A&M.
Rachel Moore, one of four seniors on this year’s squad, tallied a team-high 225 in the contest, followed by an even-200 game from Rachel Goodwin, bowling in her first-ever home event as a B-CU Wildcat. That allowed the Maroon and Gold to erase a double-digit pins deficit to earn the hard-fought 934-864 victory over the Rattlers.
The Wildcat Invitational concludes Sunday with a tournament beginning at 9:30 a.m. The tournament, consisting of Best 4-of-7 Baker matches, will determine the champion. The six teams will be seeded based on the performance on Friday and Saturday.
Alabama State leads the tournament field with the No. 1 seed, knocking down 8,826 pins and turning in an unblemished record at 10-0 through Friday and Saturday’s games. Bethune-Cookman is second with 8,744 pins, followed in third by UAB (8,684). Tulane, Florida A&M and Southern finish out the six participating teams in this year’s field.
The actual bracket for Sunday’s play will be released later Saturday evening on BCUathletics.com.
