NORFOLK, Va. - This week's wintry weather in the Hampton Roads area has forced a number of schedule changes for Norfolk State's spring sports teams.
This weekend's Spartan Baseball Classic and Spartan Clash softball tournament, both slated for the NSU campus, have been canceled. The NSU men's and women's tennis teams have moved their Sunday matches with South Carolina State from the outdoor complex at NSU to the indoor facility at ODU.
In place of a home tournament, the NSU baseball team will now trek to Emerson, Ga., for a four-game series with Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) on Sunday and Monday at the Perfect Game Park South at Lake Point complex. The teams will play a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. Sunday and another starting at 11 a.m. Monday.
The NSU softball team is still attempting to play its first games of the season after having both of its home tournaments canceled in the last week. The Spartans also had to call off their Spartan Classic event last week. NSU's next scheduled games are next weekend, March 7-8, at the University Area Hampton Inn Showcase hosted by UNC Wilmington.
The NSU men's and women's tennis teams were scheduled to play their defending MEAC champion counterparts from SCSU at 11 a.m. at the newly-renovated NSU Tennis Complex on Sunday. Instead, the matches have been moved to ODU's Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center at 6 p.m. the same day.
Below is a recap of the weekend schedule for NSU's spring sports teams, as it stands as of Thursday, Feb. 26:
