MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY MEN?S and WOMEN?S TENNIS HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – South Carolina State senior Rodney Carey and Norfolk State sophomore Liza Gordeeva were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s and Women’s Tennis Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday. South Carolina State’s Jakub Vitek and Norfolk State’s Dajana Cvjetkovic were selected as the Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week.

Carey (Sr., Bahamas) registered a victory over Nicholls State’s Sam Meessen, 6-1, 6-7, 6-1, at the No. 1 position.

Gordeeva (Fr., Minsk, Belarus) recorded a 6-3, 6-3 win at the No. 2 singles position against Christopher Newport’s Alexandra Drye. In doubles action, she secured an 8-5 victory over Christopher Newport.

Vitek (Fr., Czech Republic) notched a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Max Sinn of Nicholls State at the No. 5 position.

Cvjetkovic (Fr., Mie, Japan) went 2-0 at the No. 1 singles and doubles position against Christopher Newport. She secured a singles win 7-6 (4), 6-3, while recording an 8-5 victory in doubles action.
