MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY WOMEN?S BASKETBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Malia Tate-DeFreitas of Hampton was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Genesis Lucas of Coppin State earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Delaware State’s Nikkei Blackburn was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week.  

Tate-DeFreitas (G, 5-8, So., Harrisburg, Pa.) totaled 49 points, 10 rebounds, six steals, four assists and three blocks, in conference victories over Morgan State and Delaware State. She registered 24 points, eight rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in a 78-44 win over Morgan State.

Lucas (G, 5-7, R-Fr., Brandywine, Md.) averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 assists and 3.5 steals in conference games against Delaware State and Norfolk State. She recorded a career-high 22 points, with six assists, three rebounds and one steal in an 80-62 victory over Delaware State.

Blackburn (F, 6-0, Jr., Bennettsville, S.C.) tallied 22 rebounds, two steals and one block against Coppin State and Hampton. She registered a career-high 19 rebounds, with one block and one steal, in a 74-61 loss to Hampton.

 

Other Top Performances

Amber Bogard (DSU) recorded a career-high 24 points, with six rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal, in a 74-61 loss to Hampton.

Khyra Conerly (NCCU) registered a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds, with six assists and two blocks, in a 63-47 over Morgan State.

Rae Corbo (NSU) notched 23 points, including three 3-pointers, two steals and one rebound in a 67-57 win over Coppin State.

Jasmine Knowles (BCU) tallied 20 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and two steals in a 76-64 win over Florida A&M.

Kayla Roberts (NSU) registered a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds in a 67-57 victory over Coppin State.

Shawnee Sweeney (UMES) recorded 12 points, seven rebounds and two assists in a 61-54 victory over Howard.

Brielle Ward (HAM) totaled 21 rebounds, eight points, three steals, one assist and one block in conference victories over Morgan State and Delaware State.

Khaderja Young (FAMU) tallied 21 points, on 6-of-12 shooting, with eight rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 74-63 loss to Bethune-Cookman.
