Rattlers Rally Past Princeton, 9-5 Saturday
BOCA RATON, Fla. - The FAMU Softball team scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to edge past the Princeton University Tigers, 9-5 in the second day of play in the FAU Softball Invitational Saturday morning at FAU Stadium.
Amber Fullwood, Alyssa Weaver, Alexsis Sandage and Whitney Farris all lashed RBI singles to power FAMU to victory.
Sophomore Kenya Pereira (1-9) got the pitching victory Saturday morning, turning in a complete game performance, working seven innings, sacteering seven hits, with three strikeouts.
In the second game of the day, the University of Albany (N.Y.) scored two runs in the top of the fourth to get past the FAMU Women’s Softball team, 4-3 in the Florida Atlantic Softball Tournament Saturday afternoon.
FAMU (2-14) rallied from a 2-0 first inning deficit with a three-run third, keyed by Jessie Nathan’s’ RBI single, which was misplayed by the Albany centerfielder, allowing Whitney Farris, Naesha Lewis and Nathan to all score for a 3-2 lead.

Softball Drops Two In Spartan Invitational
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On their final day at the Spartan Invitational, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Softball Team dropped both contests to the Bryant Bulldogs and the USC-Upstate Spartans, respectively. With the setbacks, the Lady Hawks fell to 0-6 overall.
In the first game, UMES manufactured six runs on five hits. Junior Kaitlyn Hitch and freshman Samantha Casarez led the Hawk attack as both each recorded two RBIs. Hitch also notched her first multi-hit game on the season, going 2-of-3 from the plate.
In game two, the Lady Hawks tallied only two hits versus the Spartans. Hitch and Casarez each recorded a hit.
For the Spartans, Robinson and Beasley each posted two hits and two RBIs. Furthermore, Cheyenne Griffin also notched two RBIs in the victory.
On Feb. 27-28, the Lady Hawks head to Rock Hill, S.C. to compete in the Winthrop Adidas Tournament. On Friday (02/27), the squad will take on Wagner (3 p.m.) and Hartford (5 p.m.). The next day (02/28), UMES meets Austin Peay (11 a.m.) and Harvard (5 p.m.).
