MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY MEN?S BASKETBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Tyshawn Bell of Delaware State was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  Jorge Rosa of Florida A&M earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Maryland Eastern Shore’s Mike Myers was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Bell (F, 6-7, 225, Sr., Dover, Del.) totaled 42 points, including 8-of-8 from the free-throw line, with 17 rebounds, three assists and one steal in conference victories over Florida A&M and Maryland Eastern Shore. He finished with a career-high 23 points, 12 rebounds, one assist and one steal in a 90-74 victory over Florida A&M.

Rosa (G, 6-2, 175, Fr., Columbia, S.C.) averaged 19.0 points and 2.5 rebounds against Delaware State and North Carolina A&T State. He recorded 22 points, one rebound and one steal in a 57-50 conference victory over North Carolina A&T State.

Myers (C, 6-10, 240, Sr., Dover, Del.) totaled 22 rebounds, three steals and two blocks against Norfolk State and Delaware State. He grabbed 13 boards, with two blocks and two steals, in an 82-64 conference win over Norfolk State. Offensively, Myers tallied 41 points in both games. 

 

Other Top Performances

Ryan Andino (UMES) totaled 21 points, including seven 3-pointers, against Norfolk State and Delaware State.

Cedric Blossom (MSU) averaged 18.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists in back-to-back conference wins against South Carolina State and Norfolk State.

James Carlton (HOW) recorded a double-double of 27 points and 13 rebounds, with two assists, one steal and one block in a 77-60 conference win over Coppin State.

RaShid Gaston (NSU) tallied 24 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and one assist in an 82-64 loss to Maryland Eastern Shore.

Kendall Gray (DSU) totaled 24 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks, one assist and one steal in back-to-back conference wins over Florida A&M and Maryland Eastern Shore.

Jermaine Ruttley (FAMU) registered 24 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals in a 57-50 win over North Carolina A&T State.

Jeff Short (NSU) shot 65-percent (13-of-20) from the floor to finish with 34 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists, four steals and two blocks against Maryland Eastern Shore and Morgan State.

Sterling Smith (CSU) finished with a career-high 27 points, five rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal in a 73-70 loss to Savannah State.
