@BCUWBB Exhausts Eagles during Largest MEAC Win

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Bethune-Cookman University women’s basketball team improved to 7-4 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference competition after the Wildcats dismantled the North Carolina Central University Lady Eagles, earning their largest league victory of the season, 71-57, Saturday, Feb. 14 in Moore Gym.

Redshirt senior Terrenisha Hollis (Birmingham, Ala.) led B-CU on the offensive end with a team-best 18, shooting 6-for-13 from the field, 1-for-3 from behind the arc and 5-for-5 from the line.

K. Williams pulled down a game-best 15 boards while swatting eight Eagles shots in addition to her seven points.

B-CU returns to action on Monday, Feb. 16 as the Wildcats host North Carolina A&T at 5:30 p.m.

Huge First Half Run by Hawks Dooms DSU in Saturday’s 96-59 Loss on the Road

Princess Anne, Md. – Saturday afternoon, the Delaware State women’s basketball team (5-18, 2-8 MEAC) raced out to a 10-point lead on two separate occasions in the opening minutes, but the Hornets could not recover from a 21-0 outburst by the UMES Hawks (9-13, 6-6 MEAC) later in the first stanza, resulting in a 96-59 defeat.

For DSU, Hawkins’ 21 points (7-of-13) led the way for four Hornets registering double figures in the scoring column, but saw her streak of three consecutive double-doubles snapped with a team-high seven boards.

Coming up, the Columbia Blue & Red will return to Memorial Hall Monday evening (5:30 p.m.) to take on Coppin State.  Last season, the Eagles swept season series.

Corbo, Roberts Spark NSU Over Morgan State

BALTIMORE, Md. - Rae Corbo scored a game-high 25 points and Kayla Roberts added 19 points and nine rebounds to propel Norfolk State over Morgan State, 64-56, on Saturday afternoon at Hill Field House.

The win moves the Spartans to 9-14 overall, 8-4 in the MEAC and finishes off their season sweep of MSU (9-15, 6-5).

NSU's recent formula for success paid off again Saturday, with Corbo and Roberts leading the way offensively and the Spartans using a strong effort on the boards and on defense to secure the win. The Spartans outrebounded MSU 47-28 and held the Lady Bears to 35 percent shooting.

Corbo and Roberts combined to shoot 7-of-11 from 3-point range. NSU shot 37.7 percent from the floor and 77 percent (17-of-22) from the free-throw line.

The Spartans are off for a week before traveling back to Baltimore to face Coppin State next Saturday at 2 p.m.

SC State Women Fall 61-53 at Savannah State

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The SC State women's basketball team fell 61-53 at Savannah State on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Arena. The Lady Bulldogs are now 13-10 on the season and 6-6 in MEAC play.

Kourtney Williams dropped in a team-high 19 points to go with her eight rebounds, four steals and one block. Ashleigh Outler had 11 points and Jasmine Coleman had her first career double-double of 10 points and 10 boards (career-high).

SC State returns to the S-H-M Memorial Center for the final three home games of the season. The Lady Bulldogs host Maryland Eastern Shore this Saturday (4 p.m.), Howard on Monday (5:30 p.m.) and Savannah State for Senior Day on Feb. 28 (4 p.m.).
