FAMU Holds Early Lead, FSU Rallies To Win, 12-5

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida A&M Lady Rattler Softball team flirted with history Tuesday evening as they played host to the #5 ranked Florida State Seminoles at the Lady Rattler Field.

And for four innings, FAMU (0-6) held a 5-2 lead and seemed poised to pull an upset of a Top Ten national power.

But the Seminoles (4-1`) got their bats going and brought in All-American pitcher Lacey Waldrop in relief the fourth to turn the tide against FAMU, scoring 10 runs over the final three innings to take a 12-5 win.

Sophomore Kenya Pereira (0-4) pitched six innings, allowing nine runs in seven hits with four strikeouts. Freshman Veronica Burse came on in relief in the seventh.

Jessie Nathan had a perfect night at the plate for FAMU, going four-for-four with an RBI, getting all but two of the six Lady Rattler hits against FSU.

WHAT’S NEXT: FAMU travels to Clermont, Florida this weekend for the Division One Invitational Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
