CSU's Woods sizzles on second day of Red Flash Invitational

ALTOONA, Pa. – Kache Woods enjoyed an afternoon to remember in the bowling alley for Coppin State on Saturday.

Woods topped the 200-pin plateau three times in six traditional matches to highlight the second day of the Red Flash Invitational hosted by Saint Francis (Pa.). Woods averaged a 196 on the day as Coppin State defeated Penn State-Altoona, 717-642 for its only win of the day.

In setbacks to Cheyney and Pitt-Bradford, the Eagles dropped matches by less than 50 pins. However, the story for much of the days was Woods, who was a woman on fire.

Woods rolled a career-best 241 against Cheyney. She also rolled a 229 against Farleigh Dickinson in Coppin State’s first match of the day and a 222 against Pitt-Bradford in the Eagles’ second match. Once the day was completed, Woods had doubled her career mark of knocking down at least 200 pins. She now has rolled 200 or better six times in her career.

Not bad for somebody, who sat out a weekend meet in December to heal some aches and pains.

Jasmine Newman finished the day with a 159.1 average while Kristen Sharpe averaged 148.5. Newman’s high game was a 196 against Cheyney. Sharpe’s top performance was a 179 in the final match of the afternoon against Hampton. Shelby Mendoza had a high game of 139 against Cheyney. Danielle Smith’s best match was a 127 against Norfolk State.

Coppin State is off until the end of February when it competes in the final Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division meet, which will be local because Morgan State is the host.
