MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASKETBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. — Sam Hunt of North Carolina A&T State was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Quinton Forrest, of Bethune-Cookman, earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Howard’s Marcel Boyd was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Hunt (G, 6-2, 175, So., Greensboro, N.C.) totaled 65 points, nine rebounds and six assists in three wins last week, including a conference victory over Howard. He recorded 32 points against Northern Kentucky and finished with 20 points against UNC Greensboro. Also, Hunt was perfect from the free-throw line against UNC Greensboro and Howard (12-for-12).

Forrest (G, 6-5, 185, Fr., Windermere, Fla.) recorded 12 points, including 4-of-5 from the charity stripe, in a 78-49 non-conference victory over Trinity Baptist. Also, he recorded four rebounds, three assists and three steals in the win.

Boyd (C, 6-11, 255, Jr., Accokeek, Md.) hauled in 27 rebounds in games against Central Pennsylvania and North Carolina A&T State.  He recorded a career-high 16 rebounds and five blocked shots, in 30 minutes of play, against Central Pennsylvania. Offensively, he added 33 points.

 

Other Top Performers

Dionte Adams (HAM) tied a career-high 11 rebounds in a conference victory over Coppin State. Adams also had a team- and career-high four blocks against Grand Canyon.

Jordan Butler (NSU) totaled 10 rebounds, three blocks and one steal in wins over Northern Arizona and Mercy College.

Dontae Caldwell (UMES) scored a career-high 13 points, with five rebounds, against North Carolina Central.

Phillip Carr (MSU) recorded a team-high 17 points and was perfect from the free-throw line against Wagner.

James Daniel, III (HOW) finished the week with 52 points, five rebounds, seven assists and seven steals against Central Pennsylvania and North Carolina A&T State.

Eric Eaves (SCSU) connected on 67-percent from the field, with 20 points, in a win over Florida A&M.

Dajuan Graf (NCCU) put up a career-high 21 points in the conference win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Jeremiah Ingram (NCCU) recorded a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds in a non-conference victory over Mississippi Valley State.

Reginald Johnson, Jr. (HAM) averaged 24.0 points in three games, including a career-high 35 points, in a win over Northern Arizona.

Devin Martin (UMES) shot 82-percent from the free-throw line and averaged 18.0 points against Georgetown and North Carolina Central.

Jeff Short (NSU) shot 17-of-29 for 47 points in victories over Northern Arizona and Mercy College.
