B-CU's April leads Wildcats in MEAC Eventg

DeLAND, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman freshman Jasmine April finished as the bowler with the highest average Saturday, turning in a 206.50 mark in helping the Wildcats bowling squad to a 2-2 record on the opening day of the MEAC Southern Division #2 event at Sunshine Bowling Lanes.

Bethune-Cookman competed in four Traditional games Saturday, matching up against fellow teams from the southern division of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).

April, a freshman from nearby Port Orange, Florida, registered three consecutive 200-plus games to finish the day atop the MEAC field. In all, she recorded an 826 across four games for the Maroon and Gold.

As a team, B-CU began the day with a tough 925-852 setback against North Carolina A&T. Senior Rebecca Goodwin, a 2015-16 All-MEAC Preseason performer and also a native of Port Orange, led the Cats with a 190 in that contest, while junior Ivory Miles was just behind her with a 183, respectfully.

Bethune-Cookman bounced back with a 925-784 defeat of Southern Division newcomer Hampton in its next matchup. April led all Wildcat performers with a 227, while junior Krysta Coleman turned in a 208, representing the only game B-CU would have multiple 200-plus performances in a single game.

Norfolk State took down the Wildcats on the strength of a tough 898-891 decision in Bethune-Cookman’s third match of the day. Once again, April led all performers with a 222, while Coleman (188) and Miles (181) followed suit with strong games of their own.

B-CU grabbed an 892-829 victory over Florida A&M to conclude the day’s action of Traditional play. April registered a 209 game, and Goodwin chimed in with a 191.

Miles finished fourth in the field for Traditional games, as the Bolingbrook, Illinois native recorded a 745 total (186.25 avg).

Norfolk State finished as the lone unbeaten team Saturday, turning in a perfect 4-0 record. They also lead on total pin count, registering 3,605 pins across their four games.

The MEAC Southern Division #2 concludes Sunday with 5x4 Baker games.

In the Baker format, starting members of the competing teams will successively and, in regular order, bowl one frame on one lane. Once five frames are completed, the team members will remain on the same lane and complete the starting member order again, with frames six through 10 being completed. This pattern of play will continue until all 10 frames of a game are completed. No changes can be made in the order of players after the start of a game, except for substitutes, although once a bowler has been pulled from the game they are not allowed to return until the next game.
