Lady Bulldogs Open MEAC Play with 68-62 Win over FAMU
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Junior guard Bria Ratliff scored a game- and career-high 23 points to lead the South Carolina State women’s basketball team to a 68-62 come-from-behind win over Florida A&M on Saturday afternoon at the Al Lawson Center.
Ratliff was 9-of-15 from the floor for the game, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range. She also had five rebounds, three steals, and an assist in 37 minutes.
Khadejra Young and Antilla each scored in double figures for FAMU with 15 and 13 points, respectively.
Brittany Drumgoole finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists for SC State. Jasmine Coleman tallied 10 points and had four boards, three steals and a block.
The Lady Bulldogs look to continue their winning ways when they travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. for a 5:30 p.m. game at Bethune-Cookman on Monday.

Offense struggles as Hampton falls to Drexel
HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University women’s basketball team had a hard time scoring points on Saturday afternoon at the HU Convocation Center, falling 57-36 to Drexel.
The Lady Pirates fell to 0-7 on the season.
Malia Tate-DeFreitas led the Lady Pirates with 12 points, continuing her streak of scoring in double figures in every game so far this season despite shooting 4-for-15 from the floor. Kaylah Lupoe added eight points, while tying her career high with 13 rebounds.
Ryan Jordan added 10 boards, and K’lynn Willis scored seven points.
The Lady Pirates shot just 24.5 percent (12-for-49) from the floor – including a 19.1 percent clip (4-for-21) in the first half. Hampton went 4-for-19 (21.1 percent) from behind the arc and made eight of its 11 free throws (72.7 percent).
Hampton out-rebounded Drexel 42-34.
The Dragons (3-4) shot 32.1 percent (17-for-53) from the floor, hitting nine of their 27 3-pointers (33.3 percent). Drexel also made 14 of its 18 free throws, while turning 21 Hampton turnovers into 17 points.
Rachel Pearson led the Dragons with 16 points, hitting four 3-pointers.
The Lady Pirates will be in Baltimore, Md. on Monday to take on Morgan State.

Farrar Leads Morgan State over Norfolk State
BALTIMORE, Md. - Braennan Farrar scored 20 of her game-high 33 points in the pivotal fourth quarter as Morgan State rallied to beat Norfolk State 67-58 in the MEAC opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon at Hill Field House.
Farrar helped the Bears (2-6, 1-0 MEAC) end their six-game losing streak by hitting 12-of-23 from the floor and 8-of-11 from the free-throw line. She was 6-of-9 from the floor as MSU outscored NSU (0-6, 0-1) 26-10 in the final period to overcome a seven-point deficit.
Forward Siobhan Beslow tallied 14 points and 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the season for the Spartans.
Yazmen Hannah finished with 13 points while Koryn Lawrence chipped in with 12 for NSU, which shot just 35 percent for the game.
Lexus Spears added 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting and added 10 rebounds for MSU. Farrar added five rebounds, five assists and three steals. The Lady Bears shot 44 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Spartans, 43-34.
NSU has a week off for first-semester exams before returning to action on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. against UNC Wilmington at Echols Hall.

North Carolina Central Holds Off Lady Hawks
DURHAM, N.C. – Junior guard Chantal Thomas made a go-ahead basket with 3:05 left in the fourth quarter and then the North Carolina Central University women’s basketball team forced University of Maryland Eastern Shore into six turnovers in the last three minutes to secure a 49-46 victory in both squads Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opener Saturday afternoon at McDougald-McLendon Arena.
Thomas was one of three NCCU players in double figures with 11 points, in helping the Lady Eagles avenge a season-ending loss to UMES in the 2015 MEAC Women’s Basketball Tournament in March. NCCU’s first win of the season also ended a seven-game losing streak to the Lady Hawks.
Junior guard Morgan Jones bucketed a game-high 15 points, while also making four steals and dishing out a pair of assists. Senior forward Tisha Dixon nearly recorded her second straight double-double with 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Senior forward Alexis Udoji, who is the reigning MEAC Defensive Player of the Year, highlighted play for the visitors with 10 points, three rebounds, three blocks, one assist and one steal.
Junior Tyshay Britten and freshman Dominique Adams came off the bench to provide the Lady Eagles with six rebounds each. Adams also scored four points. Thomas filled up the box score in her second start with 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
NCCU will entertain another MEAC foe on Monday, when the Lady Eagles hit the McDougald-McLendon Arena court against Howard University at 5:30 p.m.

Resilient Lady Hornets Come Up Short at Fordham
BRONX, N.Y. – Trailing by 16 at halftime, thanks to guard Hannah Missry totaling 20 of her career-high 30 points (10-of-18) in the opening stanza for the Fordham Rams (3-4), the Delaware State women’s basketball team (1-7) nearly an erased 20-point deficit with a 27-point output in the third quarter, but it was not enough as the Lady Hornets suffered a 74-58 road loss.
With the defeat, DSU failed to register back-to-back road wins for the first time since 2012-13, whereas the Rams snapped a three-game slide
The first half for Fordham not only featured Missry going 6-for-12 (.500) from beyond the arc, but center Samantha Clark tallying all nine (4-for-5) of her first half points in the opening 10 minutes. Delaware State, on the other hand, saw its top leading scorers in forward Amber Bogard (10.1 ppg), Mikah Aldridge (9.7 ppg) and guard/forward NaJai Pollard (8.0 ppg) all pick up at least two fouls, while as a team, DSU was limited to 32 percent (7-of-21) shooting. Despite the foul trouble, Aldridge tallied 11 points on a perfect output from the field (4-for-4) and the charity stripe (3-for-3).
Delaware State returns to action on Dec. 13 (3 p.m.) at home against Wagner. This will be the first meeting between the two programs.

Savannah State rolls past Alabama State
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Nine players scored as the Savannah State University women’s basketball team (2-4) snapped its four game losing streak to defeat Alabama State University (1-5) 60-49 in Dunn-Oliver Acadome Saturday night.
Junior guard Kenyata Hendrix led the Lady Tigers with 14 points and added two assists, two blocks, three rebounds and three steals, while sophomore guard Lauryn Fields added 11 points with three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Junior guard Rhianna Warren added nine points, two rebounds, three assists and two steals, while junior guard Chelsea Frazier and sophomore guard Deyja Brown each added five points and four rebounds.
Junior center Tiyonda Davis added a season-high 13 rebounds and five blocks with a steal and four points. The 13 rebounds gives Davis 523 career rebounds, which moves her into fourth most in school history in the Division I era. Sophomore forward Shanikwa Buie added nine rebounds, four points and two steals.
The Lady Hornets were led by Britney Wright with a double-double, 13 rebounds and 14 points, and Danielle Clark and Kayla Tucker each added nine points, while Clark and Jasmine Peeples added six rebounds.
The Lady Tigers continue its six-game roadstand with a trip to Piscataway, N.J., to face Big Ten opponent Rutgers on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 4 p.m.
