B-CU's Ortiz Rosado Inks Pro Contract in Puerto Rico

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Former Bethune-Cookman volleyball standout setter, Hazel Ortiz Rosado, has become the first former Wildcat to continue their volleyball career, after inking a professional contract with Orientales de Humacao in the Liga de Volleyball Superior Femenio (LVSF), in Humacao, Puerto Rico.

The 5-foot-7 Dorado, Puerto Rico, native spent the latter part of her adolescents in Oviedo, Florida, where she graduated from Winter Springs High School and was the 2011 Seminole County Player of the Year while her team finished as the 2011 FHSAA 7A Runner-Up.

 Before joining the Wildcats, Ortiz Rosado spent two seasons at Monroe College in New Rochelle, New York where she received her Associates in Business Management in May 2014. She finished second in the nation (NJCAA) in services aces per set in 2012 (.91), while the Mustangs were the 2012 NJCAA Region Champions. Again in 2014, Monroe College finished as the NJCAA Region Champions, while Ortiz Rosado was named to the 2013 NCJAA National All-Tournament Team and a 2013 NJCAA All-American Second Team member.

Joining the B-CU program in 2014, Ortiz Rosado finished her Wildcat career with 1,819 assists, earning her a second place spot on the all-time list in school history after only two seasons, while her 931 assists during 2015 also ranks second at B-CU for most in a season. Ortiz Rosado collected a career-high 55 assists during the season-opener against Binghamton (Aug. 28, 2015), tying her fourth all-time for most in a match at Bethune-Cookman.

Serving as the Wildcat’s floor general for two seasons, Ortiz Rosado earned an impressive 21 assist/dig double-doubles, tallying 13 during her final season while ranked nationally during her junior campaign in service aces per set finishing with 0.48 per set (54 total), seventh best in the NCAA. She was also selected to the 2014 All-MEAC Third Team, 2015 Preseason All-MEAC team, 2015 All-MEAC First Team and the 2015 All-MEAC Tournament Team. 

Ortiz Rosado makes her professional career debut on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 as Orientales de Humacao takes on San Juan.
