Men's Basketball Recap: December 28

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Diamante Lewis scored a career-high 24 points and matched a career-high with seven rebounds in Bethune-Cookman’s 81-73 loss at Brown Monday night.

Jordan Potts also scored 24, but the Wildcats (4-9) dropped their fifth straight.

Tavon Blackmon’s 20 points led four Brown players in double figures as the Bears (4-7) shot 54.9 percent from the field and led for all but 42 seconds of Bethune-Cookman’s first-ever game against an Ivy League opponent.

Leading 36-29 at halftime, the Bears used a 12-1 run to start the second half as they built their biggest lead of the night at 48-30 on a Jason Massey free throw with 16:49 to play.

Lewis got the Wildcats within four with a lay-up that made it 53-49 with 12:29 left, and Quinton Forrest finished a three-point play that made it 62-58 with 6:50 left, but that was as close as Bethune-Cookman could get.

Lewis was 7-12 from the field in the first half, scoring 16 points.

Ricky Johnson added 12 points for the Wildcats. LaRon Smith contributed 10 rebounds and five blocked shots.

B-CU travels to Jacksonville Thursday for a 2 p.m. contest.

Hornets End Nine-Game Road Trip with loss to TCU

Fort Worth, Texas—Delaware State was scoreless during a nearly 12-minute stretch to punctuate a 75-47 loss to Texas Christian at Schollmaier Arena this evening.

The Hornets, playing their ninth consecutive road game, fell to 0-13 this season, while the Horned Frogs won their fourth straight to improve to 8-4.

Karviar Shepherd led TCU with 15 points and a game-high 19 rebounds, including nine offensive boards.

Delaware State was competitive in the early going. Each of DSU’s first four baskets was a three-pointer. Joseph Lewis hit the fourth trey to give the Hornets a 12-10 lead at the 12:53 mark of the first half.

The Horned Frogs led by 33 points on two occasions in the second half, the last time after Lyrik Shreiner hit two free throws to give the hosts a 68-35 advantage with 4:47 remaining.

DSU had more three-pointers (10) than two-point baskets (five) in the game.

Dana Raysor was high scorer for the Hornets with 17 points, his top performance at DSU.

Devin Morgan added 11 points for DSU, his fourth straight double-figure scoring game.

Lewis, making his first start since Dec. 4, tallied eight points. Gasevic came off the bench to lead the Hornets with five rebounds.

Malique Trent and Chauncey Collins had 12 points, while Brandon Parrish added 10 for TCU.

The Hornets will be home for the first time since Nov. 21 when they face Summit University (formerly Baptist Bible) next Monday (Jan. 4).
