MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASKETBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. — James Daniel, III of Howard was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Dontae Caldwell, of Maryland Eastern Shore, earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Howard’s Soloman Mangham was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Daniel (G, 5-11, 165, Jr., Hampton, Va.) poured in a game-high 28 points with three rebounds and five assists in a non-conference win over University of Maryland Baltimore County. Also, he shot perfectly (6-of-6) from the charity stripe.

Caldwell (G, 6-5, 195, Fr., Los Angeles, Calif.) shot 60-percent (9-of-15) from the field, with 29 points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals against Old Dominion and American. He scored a career-high and game-high 23 points, including five 3-pointers, against Old Dominion.

Mangham (F, 6-6, 200, Jr., Atlanta, Ga.) tied a season-high 13 rebounds, with a season-high three steals, and a blocked shot in a 103-93 victory over UMBC. Offensively, Mangham recorded 17 points in the 39 minutes of action.

 

Other Top Performers

Cedric Blossom (MSU) posted 25 points, including 11 free-throws, seven rebounds, two steals and one assist against Manhattan.

Preston Bungei (NSU) finished with 23 points, six rebounds, five blocks and three steals against Cincinnati and Evansville.

Antonio Gillespie (MSU) finished with 17 points, three boards, one assist and two steals against Manhattan.

DeAndre Haywood (DSU) scored a season-high 21 points, with four rebounds, four assists, one block and two steals against Temple.

Sam Hunt (NCAT) registered 25 points, including four 3-pointers, with one rebound and one assist in a win over Grambling State.

Devin Martin (UMES) tallied a career-high 34 points, shooting 56-percent (14-of-25) from the field, with three rebounds and four steals in the win over American.

Devin Morgan (DSU) totaled 27 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals against Grand Canyon and Temple.

Trevon Seymore (CSU) averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals on the road against San Francisco and California.

Jeff Short (NSU) shot 8-of-16 from the field to finish with 22 points, including three 3-pointers, against Evansville.

Justin Ravenal (FAMU) totaled 24 points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal against Southeastern Louisiana and North Florida.
