Lady Hawks reveal 2016 Tennis Schedule

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – As winter is upon us, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women’s Tennis squad revealed their 2016 spring schedule, the announcement came today. The 20-match slate features six home contests at Hawk Tennis Complex.

On Feb. 6, the ladies open on the road in Lewisburg, Pa. to meet the Bucknell Bison. Three weeks later (Feb. 27), UMES travels on route 13 to take on Delaware State in their conference opener.

On Mar. 4, the Lady Hawks host Penn State Abington in their home opener. A season ago, Penn State went 15-2 overall, including 7-1 on the road, and picked up a narrow victory over Maryland Eastern Shore, 5-4.

A week later (Mar. 12), the squad faces Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division Champions Howard in their conference home opener. On Mar. 13, Maryland Eastern Shore squares off against St. Francis (N.Y.) inside the Hawk Tennis Complex. A year ago, UMES picked up a road win over the Terriers, 5-2.

On Mar. 14, the club closes out their four-match home stand versus the Hampton Lady Pirates. Three days later (Mar. 17), UMES goes to the Hampton Roads area where the Norfolk State Spartans await.

The following day (Mar. 18), Maryland Eastern Shore travels to Durham, N.C. to meet Campbell in a neutral site match. On Mar. 19, the Lady Hawks will stay in the Tar Hill state to take on MEAC foe North Carolina Central.

On Mar. 21, the ladies conclude their Carolina rodeo in Greensboro, N.C. where the North Carolina A&T Aggies come calling. Four days later (Mar. 25), UMES heads to our nation’s capital, Washington D.C., to take on George Washington.

Maryland Eastern Shore ends March against the Monmouth Hawks (Mar. 31). The next day (Apr. 1), UMES squares off against Loyola (Md.). On Apr. 2, the Lady Hawks return home to meet in-state rival Coppin State. The next day (Apr. 3), UMES goes to Emmitsburg, Md. to take on Mount St. Mary’s.

On Apr. 6, the ladies host in-state rival Bowie State on Senior Day. On Apr. 9, UMES travels to the City of Brotherly Love to meet Temple where they finished 19-7 overall, including an 11-1 home record, a season ago.

On Apr. 10, the club goes on the road to take on the Towson Tigers. On the same day, the squad meets Morgan State in a re-match. On Apr. 16, Maryland Eastern Shore closes out the regular season on the road against conference foe Coppin State.

On Apr. 21-23, the MEAC will host the conference championships on the campus of Old Dominion University (ODU) in Norfolk, Va. The top four teams from both divisions qualify and the winner receives an automatic bid into the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Tournament.
