MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASKETBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. — James Daniel, III of Howard was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Quinton Forrest, of Bethune-Cookman, earned Rookie of the Week honors, while teammate Mario Moody was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Daniel (G, 5-11, 165, Jr,. Hampton, Va.) tallied 65 points in two games, including a game-high 38 points in a non-conference double-overtime loss to Radford. Also, he hit the game-winning shot with one second remaining, in a conference victory over North Carolina Central. Daniel was perfect from the free-throw line (14-of-14) in both of those games.

Forrest (G, 6-5, 210, Fr., Windermere, Fla.) totaled 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and one steal against South Carolina State and Akron. Also, he scored in double-digit figures for the third time in the past four games, with 10 points, in a conference win against South Carolina State. This is Forrest’s second straight Rookie of the Week honor.

Moody (F, 6-8. 215, r-Sr., East Orange, N.J.) tallied 26 boards, seven blocks and two steals in two games last week. Offensively, Moody recorded two double-doubles with 20 points and 12 rebounds against South Carolina State and 12 points and a career-high 14 rebounds against Akron.

 

Other Top Performers

Marcel Boyd (HOW) recorded a double-double with 15 points and a career-high 17 rebounds against Radford.

Lucian Brownlee (CSU) tallied a career-high 11 points and three rebounds against Fordham.

Jordan Butler (NSU) shot perfect from the field (3-of-3), including seven points, three rebounds, two blocks and one steal, against Northern Kentucky.

Dominique Elliott (UMES) finished with a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds against North Carolina A&T State.

Jeff Short (NSU) registered a game-high 20 points with seven rebounds, one block and one steal in a conference win over Coppin State.

 James Sylvester (CSU) averaged 9.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in against Norfolk State, Kansas State and Fordham.
