DAVIDSON, N.C. – The SC State women’s basketball team fell 63-51 to Davidson College on Saturday afternoon at the John M. Belk Arena.
SC State (3-5) took a 7-2 lead to start the game after a four-point play by Jazzmine Johnson with 8:45 left in the first quarter. Davidson (6-4) rallied to tie the game at 7-all, but a layup by Johnson put the Lady Bulldogs up by two, 9-7, at the 7:04 mark. The Wildcats went into the second quarter leading 19-12.
The Lady Bulldogs outscored Davidson 14-12 in the second half, but still found themselves down 31-26 at halftime. The Wildcats pushed their lead to 14, 48-34, with just over two minutes left in the third period.
In the fourth quarter, Davidson mounted a 19-point lead (59-40) midway through the period. SC State went on an 11-4 run during the last 4:25 of the game, but could get no closer than 12 points.
Mackenzie Latt and Hannah Early scored in double figures for Davidson with 18 and 17 points, respectively. Early added eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
Bria Ratliff led SC State with 13 points. Jasmine Coleman had nine points and a team-high eight boards. Ashleigh Outler and Johnson each had eight points.
The Lady Bulldogs return to the court next weekend when they play in the Hampton Inn Oceanfront Holiday Classic hosted by the University of North Florida. SC State plays host UNF at 3 p.m. on Saturday and takes on Central Arkansas at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
