Richardson, Medina pace Hampton to four-set win
HAMPTON, Va. – A double-double from Allysa Medina and 20 kills from Reeana Richardson helped the Hampton University volleyball team defeat Delaware State 3-1 (25-13, 28-26, 22-25, 25-23) in Holland Hall on Friday.
The Lady Pirates improved to 3-20 overall and 3-7 in MEAC play on the season.
In addition to Richardson’s team-high 20 kills, the Lady Pirates got 10 kills and 16 digs from Medina for her fourth double-double of the season. Alexandra Erhart, with three kills and just one error in seven attacks, hit a team-best .286.
Erhart also had 19 assists and a team-high five blocks.
Brianna Lilly added a team-high 20 assists, while Mallory Beard had a team-high 18 digs on defense.
Lena Washington added 10 digs.
Erin Napoleon led the Lady Pirates with a career-high four service aces.
Jasmine Jackson led Delaware State with 17 kills.
The Lady Pirates will close out their home slate on Sunday at 3 p.m. against rival Norfolk State.

Maryland Eastern Shore blanks Norfolk State
NORFOLK, Va. — Needing to win their remaining three MEAC Northern Division contests to give themselves a shot at the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament, the UMES volleyball team began a crucial two match road stretch against Norfolk State Friday night. With a great performance both offensively and defensively, the Hawks earned a 3-0 victory over the Spartans (25-16, 25-19, 25-19) at Gill Gymnasium in Norfolk.
Freshman Zuzana Ondruskova tallied 11 kills to lead the team. Sophomore Alana Polk hit .583 while chipping in four blocks—one solo, three assists. Senior Petra Jerabkova averaged over 10 assists per set with 32 for the match, and fellow senior Andjela Reljic totaled 13 digs, most on the squad.
Overall the Hawks hit .304 as a team, their best percentage since their victory over Morgan State October 9th, and their third best performance all season long.
The second leg of the road trip commences Sunday when the Hawks travel to Dover to face Delaware State. First serve is scheduled for 1:00p.m. at Memorial Hall.

White Sets Record in NCCU’s Big Win over Florida A&M
DURHAM, N.C. – Freshman middle blocker Whitney White scored 20 points with a season-high 13 kills and a new North Carolina Central University four-set record 11 total blocks (3 solo, 8 assists) in leading the Lady Eagles to an important 3-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) win over perennial league contender Florida A&M University on Friday night inside McDougald-McLendon Arena.
With the win, the Lady Eagles still control their own destiny in a late playoff push to the postseason. NCCU (5-22 Overall, 4-5 MEAC) has won two straight matches and can clinch the fourth and final playoff spot in the Southern Division with a win in its final home match of the season against Bethune-Cookman University on Senior Day Sunday at 2 p.m.
The 17-25, 26-24, 25-22, 25-19 victory mark the first NCCU win over Florida A&M (6-20, 6-3) in the Lady Eagles modern era (NCAA Division I since 2007).
White earned her first collegiate double-double with her rookie marks of 13 kills and 11 blocks. White was part of all 11 NCCU blocks, which is also a new season-high total for the team.
Senior Kelly Rossip matched White with 13 kills.
Both NCCU setters tallied double-doubles with junior Casey Curran posting 24 assists and 10 digs and sophomore Paige Phillips contributing 18 assists and 12 digs. Curran also had a season-high six kills.
Junior Kelsey Murphy continued her stellar season with 13 digs, seven kills and four block assists. Freshman Sydney Sumner chipped in seven kills and 10 digs and senior Marilyn Sherbondy notched eight digs.
Preseason MEAC Player of the Year Pamela Soriano led the Rattlers with 16 kills and 14 digs. Setter Valeria Lopez and libero Valentina Carrasco tallied match-high numbers from their respective specialty roles with 45 assists and 19 digs.
NCCU will celebrate Senior Day in its final home game of 2015 when the Lady Eagles entertain MEAC Southern Division champion Bethune-Cookman University on Sunday at 2 p.m. Rossip and Sherbondy will be honored just before the first serve.
