DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman University Head Coach Tim Pleasant and his family have been honored by United States Tennis Association (USTA), who presented them with The Ralph W. Westcott USTA Family of the Year Award at the 2015 USTA Florida Annual Meeting Sunday night.
Pleasant, along with his wife Brenda, and children Lilly (10), Timothy (9), Charlie and Francis (4) and 1-year old twins Josephine and Rosemary were recognized for excellence in coaching, organizing, leading, and playing the game.
"We celebrate every day that we have together,” Tim Pleasant said. “We homeschool together; we play tennis together; we cry together and we laugh together. And by participating in USTA Florida programming, a pathway has been created for my family's future."
In his sixth season at B-CU, Tim Pleasant led the Wildcats women’s tennis team to the 2015 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship – their first since 2001 -- and the Wildcat men’s team to its first-ever appearance in the MEAC tournament championship match. He and his staff have launched the Juan Varon Wildcat Invitational, and in just two years, the fall clay court tournament has become of the nation’s largest.
In addition, Tim Pleasant is active in USTA Early Development Camps, Junior Team Tennis, and Play Days in Volusia County, and has been a vocal advocate for the 10 and Under Tennis format and the new 10 and Under Youth Tennis Tournament Pathway.
Brenda Pleasant is certified in USTA recreational tennis, 10 and Under Tennis and USTA High Performance Workshops for 10 and Under tennis, and passes that expertise on to her children.
Lilly Pleasant won the 2015 Florida state championship in the 10-and-under division, and Timothy won the Florida Section "Little Mo" in the 9-and-under division.
“We congratulate Coach Pleasant and his family on the outstanding honor,” said B-CU Vice President of Athletics Lynn W. Thompson. “To have the USTA recognize one of our own is a moment the Bethune-Cookman is proud of.”
