MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASKETBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – James Daniel, III of Howard was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  Francois Lewis, of Florida A&M, earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Norfolk State’s Jordan Butler was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Daniel (G, 5-11, 165, Jr., Hampton, Va.) poured in a game-high 35 points, hitting 9-of-14 from the field, with two rebounds, four assists and two steals, in a 106-64 win over Medgar Evers.  He knocked down 4-of-7 3-pointers and was perfect from the charity stripe (13-of-13) in 25 minutes of play.

Lewis (F, 6-9, 220, Fr., Orlando, Fla.) collected a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, including two assists and two steals in a 70-68 win over Thomas University. 

Butler (F, 6-6, 245, So., Hartford, Conn.) tallied 27 boards and 13 blocks in three non-conference games last week.  He recorded 14 rebounds with six blocks against Washington Adventist and followed with another 10 rebounds and seven blocked shots against Indiana State.  Offensively, he added 28 points and one assist.

 

Other Top Performers

Malcolm Bernard (FAMU) scored 29 points with seven rebounds, two assists, one block and five steals against Thomas University. 

Phillip Carr (MSU) hauled down a game-high 15 rebounds, along with nine points, two assists, one block and one steal against Campbell.

Dominique Elliott (UMES) finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one block against Wofford.

Terry Harris, Jr. (CSU) posted a double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds, with one assist and three steals, in a win over Goldy-Beacom.

Jeremiah Ingram (NCCU) collected a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds in a 78-54 win over Allen.

Reginald Johnson, Jr. (HAM) averaged 19.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.0 steals to lead the Pirates to victories over American and Appalachian State.

Kyle Thomas (MSU) totaled 41 points, 19 rebounds, six assists, three blocks and one steals in games against Campbell, Old Dominion and Towson last week.

Jordan Potts (BCU) averaged 22.5 points, 3.4 assists and 3.0 steals in games against UT-Martin and Richmond last week.

Jervon Pressley (HAM) recorded a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds, with six blocks in an 82-61 win over Appalachian State.

D’Shon Taylor (NSU) registered 49 points, 25 rebounds, four assists and three steals including his fourth career double-double vs. Indiana State (15 points, 11 rebounds) in three games last week.
