MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY WOMEN?S BASKETBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State senior Omaah Tayong was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player and Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Ciani Byrom of Maryland Eastern Shore earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Tayong (C, 6-3, Sr., Baltimore, Md.) shot 59-percent from the floor (13-of-22) against UMBC and Towson. She scored 14 of her career-high 16 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Lady Eagles to their first win over Towson since 2010. Defensively, Tayong totaled 19 rebounds, one block and one steal in the two games. She registered 13 boards, with 12 points, in a loss to UMBC.

Byrom (G, 5-5, Fr., Winston-Salem, N.C.) recorded 21 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal against Northeastern and Xavier. She finished with 11 points, including two 3-pointers, three rebounds, two assists and one steal in a 60-49 loss to Northeastern.

 

 

Other Top Performers: 

Olivia Antilla (FAMU) recorded 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal in 36 minutes against North Carolina.

Tiyonda Davis (SSU) finished with seven points, four rebounds, two steals and one block against Auburn.

Victoria Gonzales (HOW) recorded a double-double of 26 points and 12 rebounds against LIU Brooklyn.

Yazmen Hannah (NSU) tallied 13 points, five boards, two assists and two steals against Virginia and Loyola (Md.).

Kenyata Hendrix (SSU) registered 15 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal in a loss to Auburn.

Kayla Roberts (NSU) notched a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds, with one block, in a loss to Loyola (Md.).

Moengaroa Subritzky (UMES) shot 54-percent (7-of-13) to finish with 17 points, five boards and five assists against Xavier.

Malia Tate-DeFreitas (HAM) averaged 18.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals against Washington State, Oregon and UTEP.
