B-CU sweeps Morgan State to advance to MEAC title match

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Bethune-Cookman rolled to its first-ever trip to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Championship after a 3-0 sweep of Morgan State in the semifinals on Saturday afternoon at the W.P. Hytche Center.

Bethune-Cookman advances to the MEAC Volleyball Championship match at noon on Sunday, November 22 against top seed from the northern division, Howard. The championship match will be streamed live on ESPN3 and tape delayed on ESPNU at 9 p.m., on Sunday.

The Lady Wildcats (15-15) took the match with 25-13, 25-19 and 25-20 scores.

It was a balanced offensive attack for Bethune-Cookman as the Lady Wildcats hit .272 in three matches and were led by Rhea Simon’s nine kills, while Delicia Pierre added eight kills. Hazel Ortiz-Rosado chipped in with 26 assists and Normarie Rolon-Soto added 12 digs. Bethune-Cookman had 18 blocks, including five from Ortiz-Rosado.

Arianna Hayden and Dinah Jones paced the Morgan State offense with eight kills. Carmen Fernandez added 28 assists and 10 digs.

The Lady Bears conclude their season with a 12-16 record.
