Antilla, Sweeting lead the way for Lady Rattlers in loss

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Florida A&M Lady Rattlers dropped their second game of the young 2015-16 campaign Tuesday night, falling to the No. 22 North Carolina Tar Heels, 94-58 at Carmichael Center.

The Tar Heels (1-2) used a decided edge in rebounding (34 defensive boards to 13 offensive rebounds for FAMU), and hot shooting (52.5 percent to 30.4 for FAMU) to secure their first win of the year in three tries.

UNC led 30-11 after the first period, and edged past FAMU, 27-18 in the second frame to take a 57-29 lead into the break.

Scoring slowed in the second half as the Heels barely outscored FAMU, 37-29 over the final two quarters to close out the game.

Senior Olivia Antilla led FAMU with 17 points and seven rebounds, cashing in on four of nine three-pointers, followed by junior Cedricka Sweeting, who finished with 16 points and a pair triples, and sophomore Shalunda Burney-Robinson, who had nine points and a team-high eight rebounds.

UNC was paced by the duo of Destinee Walker and Stephanie Watts, who combined for 59 points, 16 rebounds and seven of 12 shooting from distance. Walker logged a double double with 32 points and 10 boards, hitting a pair of threes, while Watts finished with 27 points, six rebounds, while going five-of-nine from long range.

FAMU wraps up its’ four-game season-opening road tour Friday in Orlando, as they face off against the Knights of UCF at UCF Arena. Tip time will be 7:00 p.m.
