NORFOLK, Va. – The Howard Lady Bison and the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats earned the top seeds in the northern and southern divisions of the 2015 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Championship Tournament.
Howard captured the top seed in the North after posting an 11-1 mark in conference play. The Lady Bison enter tournament play on a 10-match win streak and have won 12 out of their last 13 matches.
Morgan State (9-3), advancing to the tournament for the second consecutive season, won the tiebreaker over Maryland Eastern Shore to claim the second seed. UMES (9-3) enters the tournament with five straight wins as the third seed, while Coppin State (6-6) earned the fourth and final seed in the North.
Bethune-Cookman won the regular-season southern divisional crown for the first time in school history and earned the top spot. The Lady Wildcats won five matches to seal the divisional title.
Florida A&M (7-3) is the second seed in the southern division. North Carolina A&T State (5-5) finished as the third seed, and South Carolina State (4-6) won the head-to-head tiebreaker over North Carolina Central to earn the fourth seed.
Only the top four teams in each division are eligible to compete in the single-match elimination tournament and vie for the championship title. Seedings are determined by overall conference records. Delaware State (1-11), Hampton (3-9), Norfolk State (3-9), North Carolina Central (4-6) and Savannah State (0-10) have been eliminated from tournament play based on their MEAC record.
The 2015 MEAC Volleyball Championship tournament begins on Friday, November 20 at 10 a.m., at UMES Hytche Athletic Center on the campus of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Md. Admission for the championship tournament is $9 each day and $21 for three-day passes.
