Al Roker Visits Savannah State for Rokerthon 2

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Savannah State University was highlighted on “The Today Show” this morning as weatherman Al Roker completed another leg of the “Rokerthon 2” on the institution’s campus. The taped event aired at 7 a.m. on the national morning talk show. 

Roker was welcomed by a flurry of music and cheers as the institutions’ faculty, staff, alumni and students, including the cheerleaders and the Coastal Empire Sound Explosion marching band, greeted the television personality for the event. He delivered the day’s weather in front of Hill Hall and stayed to take a few selfies with the students.

Roker’s goal with “Rokerthon 2” is to set another Guinness World Record of delivering a weather report in all 50 states over the span of one week.  During the first “Rokerthon”, Roker set the record for the longest uninterrupted live weather report at 34 hours. 

Roker begin this year’s event on November 6 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Before his stop at the Savannah State campus, Roker had covered the weather in 34 states.  Savannah was one of eight cities Roker visited Wednesday, including stops in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and West Virginia. He plans to wrap up his final weather report at New York’s Rockefeller Center.
