Maryland Eastern Shore rallies to defeat VCU
RICHMOND, Va.— In their final non-conference tune up of the season, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) volleyball team rallied from a tough first set and defeated the VCU Rams, 3-1 (16-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-22) at the Siegel Center in Richmond Wednesday night.
The victory improves the Hawks’ record to 21-6 overall and the team has won two of three against the Atlantic 10 this season.
Two freshmen—Lucia Babic and Zuzana Ondruskova —recorded double-doubles in the match. Babic led the Hawks in kills with 14 and came in second in digs with 16, while Ondruskova tallied 12 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore Alana Polk led the team in blocks with two solos and five block assists. Senior Petra Jerabkova assisted on 33 of the team’s 44 kills, and fellow senior Andjela Reljic earned 19 digs, becoming the third player to hit double figures in digs.
UMES closes out its regular season with senior day festivities Friday night against Norfolk State. First serve is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. or 30 minutes following the conclusion of the women’s basketball game versus Georgetown.

Jackson records double-double as DSU falls to Norfolk State
DOVER, Del. --- Despite a fourth straight double-double by senior Jasmine Jackson, the Delaware State volleyball team could not keep up with MEAC rival Norfolk State, falling 3-0 to the Spartans in Memorial Hall this evening. The scores were 25-17, 25-22 and 25-14.
Jackson led all players with 14 kills and 14 digs, marking the 13th time she has reached double-figures in digs and kills in the same match this season.
Angie Darcus led a balanced Norfolk State attack with 11 kills, while Clarke Tyler and Janay Frazier had 10 each.
Norfolk State’s Darcy Moore topped all players with 32 assists. Marisol Arredondo led Delaware State with 27 helpers.
The Spartans posted a .430 hitting percentage in the match, tallying 42 kills and just five errors on 86 attacks.
The Hornets had a .143 hitting percentage, recording 36 kills and 22 errors on 98 attempts.
Norfolk State improved to 4-20 overall and 3-8 in the MEAC, while Delaware State fell to 2-24 and 0-11.
DSU returns to action on Friday at home against Hampton. The match begins at 4 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
