Savannah State falls in straight sets to Florida A&M
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Savannah State University volleyball (0-27, 0-7 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) team fell to Florida A&M University (6-17, 6-1 MEAC) 3-0 (25-17, 25-8, 25-14) in The Al Lawson Center on Sunday.
Junior Gabrielle Nathaniel led the team with nine kills and had a .238 hitting percentage and added four digs, while junior setter Caitlynn Masoe led the team with 17 assists, six digs and two kills.
Junior libero Alexis Washington led the team with 12 digs, while senior middle blocker Christian Lyle added seven kills with a .417 hitting percentage.
The Lady Rattlers were led by Deija Martin with nine kills, Valeria Lopez with 27 assists and Pamela Soriano with 10 digs.
The Lady Tigers returns home for the final three matches of the season starting with North Carolina A&T State on Friday at 6 p.m. and North Carolina Central on Sunday at 1 p.m. with both matches at Willcox-Wiley Gymnasium.

Hornets extend Division Leader to four sets in MEAC loss
DOVER, Del. --- The Delaware State volleyball team was tied with MEAC North leader Howard at one set each, but dropped the last two sets in a 3-1 loss in Memorial Hall.
The Bison won the first set 25-12, but the Hornets bounced back to take set two 25-23. Howard pulled ahead with a 25-17 win in the third set, and claimed the match with a 25-11 victory in set four.
Khaila Donaldson led Howard with 15 kills, while teammates Courtney Dalton and Katherine Broussard had 14 each to lead the Bison. HU’s Tamia Dockery led all players with 29 assists.
Jasmine Jackson led Delaware State with nine kills.
Howard had a .310 hitting percentage, compared to .009 for DSU in the match.
The Bison recorded 54 digs, led by Morgan Marlborough’s match-high 17. Delaware State tallied 36 digs. Ayanna Lee led the Hornets with 13.
Howard was credited with 22 blocks. Janaya Hampton had seven blocks, including two solos, to lead the Bison.
The Hornets recorded 15 blocks. Jenessa Helu led the team with four.
Howard improved to 12-13 overall and 8-1 in the MEAC, while the Hornets fell to 2-19 and 0-5.
Delaware State will return to action next Friday (Oct. 30) at Coppin State. The match begins at 7 p.m. in Baltimore, Md. DSU’s next home match is Sunday Nov. 1 against Morgan State ( 2 p.m.).

Okpegbue and Jackson pace Coppin State in five-set loss
BALTIMORE, Md. – Coppin State’s Cindy Okpegbue and Bailee Jackson registered double-doubles during a tough 3-2 setback to visiting Hampton University Sunday afternoon in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) match in the Auxiliary Gym.
After Coppin State (8-12 overall, 5-4 MEAC) won the first set 25-16 in 17 minutes, Hampton (2-19, 2-6) claimed three of the next four sets by scores of 23-25, 24-26, 25-17, 9-15, to earn its second victory of the season and extend its winning streak on Coppin State’s campus to seven straight.
Meanwhile, Coppin State fell to 2-3 at home this season and dropped to 4-1 this season in five-set matches.
Okpegbue led the Lady Eagles with 18 kills. In recording double-digit kills for the 56th time in her career, Okpegbue has finished with at least 18 kills in four of Coppin State’s last five matches. Okpegbue, who also complemented her effort with 14 digs for her seventh career double-double and fifth this season, has 1,171 career kills.
Jackson posted her fourth double-double this season with 14 kills and 17 digs. Denali Sturgeon was the hitting star for the Lady Eagles as she collected a season-high 14 kills on a .393 hitting percentage. Samantha Polk also finished with double-digit kills as she had 11.
Chelsee Sauni had 52 assists while Glory Rosado ended with 16 digs.
The difference in the match was Hampton’s activity at the net in which it finished with 26 blocking assists. Kyndall Nicholas had seven block assists including match point. Reeana Richardson led the Lady Pirates with 14 kills and 12 digs. Lena Washington added 12 kills. Allysa Medina (nine kills) and Mallory Beard combined for 26 digs. Brianna Lilly had a team-high 28 assists for Hampton.
Coppin State closes its home schedule out Friday night when it hosts Delaware State beginning at 7:00 p.m.
