MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY MEN?S BASKETBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Taariq Cephas of Coppin State was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  Florida A&M’s Craig Bowman earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Norfolk State’s D’Shon Taylor was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Cephas (G, 5-11, 165, Sr., Bear, Del.) totaled 29 points, 15 assists, 10 rebounds, and eight steals against Eastern Kentucky and Akron. He recorded a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, along with eight assists and a career-high seven steals against Akron. 

Bowman (G, 6-3, 170, Fr., St. Petersburg, Fla.) averaged 10.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.0 steals against Florida International and Stetson. He shot 5-of-7 from the field to finish with 12 points, two steals, one rebound, one block, and one assist against FIU.

Taylor (G, 6-5, 195, Jr., Nassau, Bahamas) averaged 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals, and 1.0 block against Baylor and Georgia. He grabbed six boards along with four steals and two blocks against Baylor. Offensively, Taylor recorded 19 points, including four 3-pointers.

 

Other Top Performances

Karamo Jawara (NCCU) tallied 13 points, four rebounds, four steals, and two blocks in a 70-49 win over IUPUI.

Iman Johnson (UMES) recorded seven rebounds and six points in a 63-60 win over UT-Martin.

Mike Myers (UMES) posted a double-double of 14 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists in a 63-60 win over UT-Martin.

Jermaine Ruttley (FAMU) recorded his first double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds against Stetson.

Jeff Short (NSU) registered 23 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal against Baylor.

Brandon Stewart (BCU) notched 22 points, three steals, and two rebounds against The Citadel.
