Bethune-Cookman Snaps Losing Skid in win over Western Carolina
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats (4-10) snapped a five-game losing streak on Saturday at Richard V. Moore Gymnasium, stringing together a near-complete game effort to jump out early and hold off Western Carolina (7-7) for the 63-53 non-conference victory.
Although Kendra Cooper was limited in the second half, she led all scorers with 20 points. Meanwhile, Kayla Crawford dominated the second half for B-CU, notching her fourth double-double of the year with 18 points and 11 rebounds, hitting 8-for-13 from the floor. Also reaching double figures, Kailyn Williams scored 10 and tallied her second seven (7) block outing this season.
The Lady Wildcats finished shooting 44.2 percent from the floor and 85.7 percent from the line, holding WCU to 28.6 percent field goal shooting.
With the victory, the Lady Wildcats conclude the non-conference slate and re-open the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) schedule next week with Hampton (Jan. 10) and Norfolk State (Jan. 12) at Moore Gymnasium.

USC Upstate Pulls Away for 70-58 Win over Norfolk State
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Host South Carolina Upstate closed the game on a 23-7 run to overtake Norfolk State and pull away for a 70-58 win in a battle of the Spartans on Saturday afternoon at the G.B. Hodge Center.
Brittany Starling recorded a double-double of 12 points and 19 rebounds for the Spartans of USC Upstate (8-6). Rae Corbo scored a game-high 22 points and Koryn Lawrence added 14 for the Spartans of NSU (2-10), who lost their fifth in a row.
For the game, NSU had 24 turnovers and shot 35.6 percent from the floor (16-of-45). The taller Spartans of USC Upstate held a 30-12 edge in points in the paint and a 13-2 advantage in second-chance points.
Sharmayne Edwards added 12 points and Dickerson had 11 for Upstate. Both dished out four assists.
Corbo was 5-of-11 from the floor and 11-of-14 from the free-throw line for NSU in notching her seventh 20-point game of the year. Lawrence enjoyed a perfect shooting day, hitting all four of her field goals and all six of her free throws. Kayla Roberts added nine points and 11 rebounds, and Jazamine Gray had five assists.
NSU has a quick turnaround before its next game, a MEAC matchup with Coppin State at 6 p.m. Monday at Echols Hall in Norfolk. NSU's final 15 regular-season games are against conference opponents.

Bluefield State rallied for win over North Carolina Central
DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University led Saturday’s women’s basketball game against Bluefield State for more than 28 minutes, including the first 16 minutes of the second half. However, the visiting Lady Blues led when it matters most – at the final buzzer.
Thanks to a game-high 29 points by sophomore guard Shakima Wiggins and 14-7 run to end the game, Bluefield State extended its win streak to four games with a 66-63 win over NCCU inside McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium.
NCCU drops to 2-11 on the season, while Bluefield State improves to 10-5.
The Lady Eagles were topped by senior Racquel Davis with team-highs of 16 points and 11 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. Davis is now 15 points away from tallying her 1,000th collegiate career point.
Nikki Works and Jones contributed 11 points each for NCCU, while Tisha Dixon and Alexus Hynes added nine points apiece. Khyra Conerly did a little of everything for the Lady Eagles with five points, four rebounds, and game-highs of eight assists and five steals.
NCCU returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 6 to host Wofford at 6 p.m. inside McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium. Admission is free.
