FAMU can't slow down Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Florida A&M Lady Rattlers (4-8, 1-0 MEAC) fell victim to the red hot shoting of the Kennesaw State Owls (11-3), 79-58 tonight at the KSU Convention Center, here in Kennesaw, Ga.

Freshman, Olivia Antilla, led the Lady Rattlers with 16 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the field, 3-of-7 from three-point range.  Khadejra Young and Dawn King both added 12 points each, to round out the trio of FAMU players in double figures.

“We’ve got to get more consistency out of this team.  Tonight we played like we haven’t progressed enough to be a good team.  Knowing that we are young and have players out of their normal positions is no excuse.  We’ve got to go back and look at our game and make some adjustments before Sunday’s game,” head coach LeDawn Gibson said.

The Lady Rattlers shot just 35.8 percent from the field and 32 percent from three-point range.  The key elements that FAMU struggled with were points in the paint and points off turnovers.  KSU outscored FAMU 32-16 in the paint and scored 25 points off turnovers.

KSU was led by Deandrea Sawyers who went 5-of-8 from the three-point arc en route to scoring a game high 20 points.  Kristina Wells (16), Aareon Smith (13) and Neffie Lockley (12) were the remaining Owls to score in double figures.

The Lady Rattlers travel to Macon. Ga for the final game of their road swing against the Mercer Bears at 2 p.m.
