MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY MEN'S BASKETBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Jeff Short of Norfolk State was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  South Carolina State’s Edward Stephens earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Delaware State’s Kendall Gray was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Short (G, 6-4, 195, r-Jr., Bronx, N.Y.) averaged 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.5 steals in conference victories over North Carolina A&T State and South Carolina State. He shot 69-percent (9-of-13) from the field to finish with 20 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals against South Carolina State.

Stephens (G, 6-2, 175, Fr., Columbia, S.C.) averaged 21.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals against Maryland Eastern Shore and Norfolk State.  He recorded 26 points, playing in 39 minutes, and drained four 3-pointers, including the game-winner, in a 73-72 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Gray (C, 6-10, 240, Sr., Dover, Del.) totaled 29 rebounds and six blocks to help the Hornets to back-to-back conference victories over Savannah State and North Carolina A&T State.  He grabbed a game high 17 rebounds, four blocks, and one steal, while playing the entire 40 minutes, in a 59-50 conference win over Savannah State. Offensively, Gray totaled 18 points in the two games. 

 

Other Top Performances

Quentin Bastian (FAMU) tallied a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds, while shooting 69-percent (9-of-13) from the field, against Coppin State.

Craig Bowman (FAMU) recorded 17 points and seven rebounds against Coppin State.

James Carlton (HOW) finished with a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds, including a career-high three blocks, two steals, and one assist in a 59-50 win over Florida A&M.

James Daniel, III (HOW) tallied a game-high 20 points, three assists, two rebounds, and two steals, while sinking five 3-pointers, in a 59-50 conference win over Florida A&M.

Delino Dear (B-CU) registered a double-double of 11 points and 16 rebounds in a 65-58 conference win over Morgan State.

Ricky Johnson (B-CU) finished with 24 points, including five 3-pointers, along with three assists, and two rebounds against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Christian Kessee (CSU) recorded a career-high 23 points in an 87-75 victory over Florida A&M.

Amere May (DSU) averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.0 steals in conference wins over Savannah State and North Carolina A&T State.

Mike Myers (UMES) registered a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds in a 74-70 conference victory over Bethune-Cookman.

Jordan Parks (NCCU) scored 25 points and hauled down 11 boards in a 79-77 victory over Coppin State.

Zaynah Robinson (NSU) totaled 13 points, five assists, three rebounds, and one steal, in a pair of wins over North Carolina A&T State and South Carolina State.

D’Shon Taylor (NSU) registered 16 points, on 6-of-10 shooting, with eight rebounds, three assists, and two blocks against South Carolina State.
