Lady Pirates Suffer First MEAC Loss At Tigers
SAVANNAH, Ga. – Saturday afternoon brought an unfamiliar feeling to the Hampton University women’s basketball team, as the Lady Pirates dropped their first MEAC game in almost three full years, falling 61-55 to Savannah State in Tiger Arena.
It was Hampton’s first loss to a MEAC foe since Jan. 28, 2012, when Coppin State defeated the Lady Pirates 69-66 in overtime at the HU Convocation Center. The Lady Pirates had won 54 straight games against MEAC opponents, including tournament games.
Saturday also marked the first time ever that Savannah State defeated Hampton.
Sophomore guard Malia Tate-DeFreitas led the Lady Pirates with 18 points, leaving her 12 points shy of becoming the 26th player in program history to accumulate 1,000 career points. Junior guard Ryan Jordan added 16 points and six rebounds.
The Lady Pirates will be in Orangeburg, S.C. on Monday to take on South Carolina State at 5:30 p.m.

Lady Hornets Fall Big at NCAT to Open Road Swing
Greensboro, N.C. – Saturday afternoon, the Delaware State women’s basketball team (3-14, 1-4 MEAC) was no match against the MEAC preseason favorite North Carolina A&T Aggies (10-10, 3-4 MEAC), falling 79-38 to open a four-game road trip.
At game’s end, four Aggies scored in double figures, led by guard Dana Brown’s 17 points (7-of-15), including draining a game-high three 3-pointers. The Aggies also scored 42 points off 23 Delaware State turnovers, along with 40 points in the paint. For DSU, forwards Tierra Hawkins (16) and Amber Bogard (13) led the squad in scoring, respectively.
Coming up, the Columbia Blue & Red will head to nearby Durham, N.C. to take on the North Carolina Central Eagles Monday afternoon (4 p.m.).

Bethune-Cookman Runs Away from Maryland Eastern Shore, 75-65
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Four Bethune-Cookman players logged double figures in the scoring column, led by Jasmine Knowles with 17, as the Lady Wildcats took down Maryland Eastern Shore, 75-65, in MEAC women’s basketball action at Moore Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
The current three-game conference winning streak matches last year’s run near the end of the regular season, as the longest for the Lady Wildcats since 2011-12.
The Lady Wildcats were led by Jasmine Knowles’ 17-point, nine-rebound production, adding five assists and two steals. Joining her in double figures was Kendra Cooper (16), Crawford (12) and Emily Williams (11). Kailyn Williams registered 11 rebounds and three blocked shots from her center position on the court.
B-CU looks to continue its win streak Monday night when the Lady Wildcats welcome Howard to Moore Gymnasium in a league matchup set for 5:30 p.m.

Williams’ Career Night Helps SCSU Snap NSU’s 4-Game Win Streak
ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Kourtney Williams scored a career-high 37 points to help host South Carolina State snap Norfolk State’s four-game winning streak, 79-75, on Saturday evening at the S-H-M Memorial Center.
Williams was 10-of-17 from the floor, 2-of-7 from 3-point range, and 15-of-17 from the free-throw line for the Lady Bulldogs (11-7, 4-3 MEAC), who shot 47 percent from the floor. Rae Corbo led NSU (6-12, 5-2) with 19 points and Koryn Lawrence added 18.
The Spartans remain in second place in the MEAC and are just one loss behind first-place Hampton (5-1 MEAC), which dropped its first conference game of the season Saturday to Savannah State (4-2 MEAC). NSU travels to Georgia to face that same SSU squad Monday night. Tip-off is at 5:45 p.m.

FAMU Lady Rattlers Down Howard Bison
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida A&M Lady Rattlers (5-13, 2-4 MEAC) snapped a six game losing skid with an impressive 65-51 victory over the Bison of Howard University (2-16, 2-3 MEAC), tonight on Student Organization Night at the Al Lawson Center.
Olivia Antilla, led the Rattlers with 19 points. Freshman Shalaunda Burney-Robinson scored a season-high 11 points and Alicia Jones scored 10.
FAMU shot 51.9 percent from the field for the game and 45.5 percent from the three point line. FAMU managed to win with 25 turnovers on the day.
The Lady Rattlers will take on the Hawks of UMES on Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the Al Lawson Center.

Davis’ Double-Double Leads NCCU to One-Point Win Over Coppin State
DURHAM, N.C. –The North Carolina Central University women’s basketball team battled back from an eight-point second-half deficit to beat the Coppin State University Eagles, 59-58, and end a three-game losing skid on Saturday, Jan. 24 in McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium.
Senior Racquel Davis earned her seventh double-double of the season, with game-highs of 24 points and 16 rebounds in Saturday’s victory.
N.C. Central hits the court again in McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium on Monday, Jan. 26 to compete against the Delaware State Hornets at 4 p.m.
