Aggies Dominated in Durham
DURHAM, N.C. – Both North Carolina A&T cross country teams were successful over N.C. Central in the annual Eagle/Aggie Cross Country Classic.
The women’s race changed to a standard 5k instead of the originally planned 2.9 mile run, while the men raced in a 6k event.
The women’s team took the top-4 finishes. Freshman Miranda Green led the women to a 20-35 victory (the lowest score wins in cross country) against the Eagles with a first-place finish. Green ran 21:07.65 in her first 5k of the season. Behind her were sophomore Daniqua Dye (22:11.70), freshman Imani Coleman (22:19.93) and sophomore Imani Quillen-Harris (23:50.29).

Hunt, Coward Top NCCU in Eagle/Aggie Cross Country Classic
DURHAM, N.C. – Syrita Hunt and Greg Coward topped the North Carolina Central University women's and men's cross country teams, respectively, in the season-opening Eagle/Aggie Cross County Classic on Saturday morning at the Al Buehler Trail in Durham, N.C.
In spite of their efforts, the visiting Aggies of North Carolina A&T State University swept the team competition in the head-to-head meet.
Hunt was the first Lady Eagle to cross the finish line, placing sixth with a time of 25 minutes, 30.58 seconds on the 5k-course. NCCU took the next four places with Shania Nicely in seventh (26:31.50), Christa Landy in eighth (27:18.93), Darlene Girardeau in ninth (30:08.97) and Lovasia Thomas in 10th (30:19.08).
NC A&T's Miranda Green won the women's race with a time of 21:07.65.

Escobedo Leads Lady Bears To UMES Lid-Lifter Title
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (Sept. 6, 2014)-The Morgan State women’s cross country team placed five runners in the top-10 on Saturday, as the Lady Bears captured the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Lid-Lifter title on the campus of UMES.
The Lady Bears finished with a total of 27 points, while host UMES came in second with 57 points. Delaware State (75 points) and Norfolk State (81 points) placed third and fourth, respectively.
Individually, Morgan State freshman Karen Escobedo was the Lady Bears’ top runner for the second consecutive week as she captured the event title in a time of 19:13.48. Fellow Lady Bear Ishakeema Swain placed second in a time of 19:51.13.
Jada Boyd (20:31.41/7th), Nynneya Columbus (20:55.24/8th) and Rachel Bauer (21:14.55/9th) all placed within the top for Morgan State.

Desalegn, Webb Crack Top 5 at Lid-Lifter
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Juniors Adugna Desalegn and Rachel Webb both placed in the top five Saturday morning for the Spartan women's cross country team at the Lid-Lifter Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
Desalegn completed the 5,000-meter course in 20 minutes, 8.01 seconds. Webb was close behind in 20:25.76 as the Spartans competed in their first 5K of the season. NSU placed fourth with 81 points, trailing Morgan State (27), UMES (57) and Delaware State (1975).
Desalegn and Webb were the only Spartans to place in the top 20 Saturday. Senior Kassandra Irizarry was 26th in a time of 25:22.19. Kaydianne McKenzie was 27th in 26:27.53 and Courtney Kearse was 30th in 29:51.85.
The Spartans race next Saturday at the Tribe Invitational hosted by the College of William & Mary.

Women for DSU Turn in Solid Outings in Lid-Lifter Invitational in Season Opener
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Over the weekend, the Delaware State cross country program opened its 2014 campaign with the Lid-Lifter Invitational, hosted by the UMES Hawks with the women (75 points) finishing third.
On the women’s side racing against the likes of Morgan State, UMES, and Norfolk State, DSU’s Ketsia Dornevil crossed the finish line at 20:15.23 to place fourth to lead the way for the Hornets. Junior Nicole Gazzola was the next best finisher for DSU placing 11th (21:34.93).
Winning the race was Morgan State (27 points) with five runners in the top ten, led by Karen Escobedo (19:13.48).
Coming up, Delaware State will host its first meet of the season next Saturday with the Hornet Invitational (10 a.m.).
