Strakova Named ECAC Co-Player of the Week

DANBURY, Conn. – Hampton University senior rightside Vendula Strakova added another award to her proverbial mantle on Wednesday, as she was named Division I Co-Player of the Week by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).

Rhode Island’s Franki Darnold shared the honor.

On Tuesday, Strakova was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Div. I National Player of the Week – marking the second time in her career that she earned that honor.

Strakova (Brno, Czech Republic) was also named MEAC Co-Player of the Week on Monday, following her MVP performance this past weekend at the DePaul Invitational. In three matches over the weekend, she averaged 5.58 kills and 6.29 points per set.

The MEAC Preseason Player of the Year hit a combined .359 over the weekend, and she recorded her first double-double of the season on Saturday against DePaul, racking up a team-high 27 kills to go along with 10 digs and hitting a weekend-high .375.

She also had 25 kills and seven digs in Friday’s five-set win over Bradley to go along with two aces.

Strakova and the Lady Pirates will be in Harrisonburg, Va. on Friday and Saturday to compete in the JMU Invitational. For more information on Hampton University volleyball, please call the Office of Sports Information at(757) 727-5811, or visit the official Pirates website at www.hamptonpirates.com.
