NORFOLK, Va., September 22, 2014 – Florida A&M junior Yeisha Arcia was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, while teammate Pamela Soriano earned the Rookie of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday.
Arcia (Jr., San Juan, Puerto Rico) averaged a double-double of 14 kills and 18 digs in matches against Auburn, Northwestern State, and Jacksonville State. She recorded 21 digs and 17 kills in a 3-1 win against Northwestern State.
Soriano (Fr., Santo Domingo, Puerto Rico) averaged 16 digs and 12.6 kills at the War Eagle Invitational. She recorded 19 kills and 19 digs in a win against Northwestern State, and 15 digs and 14 kills in a 3-1 victory against Jacksonville State.
Other Top Performers:
Kirby Anderson (SCSU) earned UT-Chattanooga All-Tournament Team honors after totaling 23 digs, 20 blocks, and 18 kills in three matches.
Mallory Beard (Hampton) accumulated 20 digs in matches against Northern Colorado, Wyoming, and UC Davis.
Assata Conway (Howard) hit .412 percent, with nine kills, against North Carolina State.
Khaila Donaldson (Howard) recorded 15 kills and 11 digs with two service aces against William & Mary.
Kirstin Fink (UMES) registered 22 assists against Bethune-Cookman and Campbell at the Best Western Wild Weekend Invitational.
Hope Forsythe (NSU) hit .353 percent, with six kills, and two blocks versus South Carolina.
Bailee Jackson (CSU) recorded 13 digs in a win over University of Maryland Baltimore County.
Jessica Johnson (NSU) registered 18 kills against South Carolina at the Carolina Classic.
Dinah Jones (MSU) totaled 38 kills, 10 blocks, and three digs on the way to a 2-1 weekend against St. Francis (Pa.), Loyola (Md.), and George Mason.
Paige Phillips (NCCU) totaled 47 assists against Pepperdine, No. 18 Arizona State, and No. 8 Colorado State.
Delicia Pierre (BCU) registered 18 kills and nine digs in a win against Campbell.
Vendula Strakova (Hampton) notched 19 kills and 12 digs against UC Davis.
Ksenia Sukhareva (UMES) logged 17 kills and 15 digs against Campbell.
Kandace Thomas (CSU) recorded a .357 hitting percentage with eight digs against No. 20 Arizona.
