HAMPTON, Va. – For the second time in as many seasons, Hampton University senior rightside Vendula Strakova has been named Div. I National Player of the Week, as announced on Tuesday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
Strakova was named MEAC Co-Player of the Week on Monday, following her MVP performance this past weekend at the DePaul Invitational. In three matches over the weekend, she averaged 5.58 kills and 6.29 points per set.
The MEAC Preseason Player of the Year hit a combined .359 over the weekend, and she recorded her first double-double of the season on Saturday against DePaul, racking up a team-high 27 kills to go along with 10 digs and hitting a weekend-high .375.
She also had 25 kills and seven digs in Friday’s five-set win over Bradley to go along with two aces.
Strakova was first named National Player of the Week by the AVCA on Sept. 3, 2013. She is the only player in program history to be recognized in such a manner by the AVCA.
